St. Patrick Varsity Softball traveled to Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart on Saturday for their Irish Invitational Softball Tournament. The Shamrocks won two games to win the Championship and take home the trophy this afternoon. Game 1: vs Farwell 12-2 Carly Scheurer pitched game1 and led the Shamrocks and had 5 strikeouts. From the plate, Natalee Teachworth went 3/3 with a triple, Lydia Meredith went 3/4 with 3 RBIs, Emma Honsowitz went 3/3 with a Double and RBI, Carly Scheurer added 2 RBIs, Bella Meyers went 2/3 with a double and 2 RBIs, Addie Scheurer had a triple with 2 RBIs, Mara Schrauben was 1/2, and Rylee Scheurer went 3/4. Game 2: vs Mt Pleasant Sacred Heart 10-0 After defeating Tawas, MPSH faced the Shamrocks in the Championship game. Rylee Scheurer pitched game two and had 5 strikeouts. Lydia Meredith went 3/4 with 2 RBIs, Natalee Teachworth went 2/4, Emma Honsowitz went 2/3 with 2 RBIs, Jamelyn Forist went 2/3, Rylee Scheurer went 3/4 with 2 RBIS, and Carly Scheurer added an RBI. Coach’s Comments: Today’s weather changed the format of the tournament from a round Robin to a simple 4 game tournament. The girls adjusted their mindset and came out and dominated Farwell. Moving into game 2, the girls held that same mindset and in inning one started the bats again. Over the last few weeks some our bats have fluctuated and today that was not the case. We were consisted, extremely solid, and hit to the parts of the field where we found holes. After the game the coaches conversation was about how hard each girl hit today. Lydia scorched the field with line drives, Mara hammered the right side for a double and three other hard hits, Nat hit the middle, Emma came in clutch, Addie popped one off their 220 fence, Ry found holes, Tori, Car, Jamelyn, Hayley, and Bella were smart at the plate and came up with HUGE RBIS. Mara was a machine at third base and anything in her area was an out, Nat had incredible picks and a very enjoyable foul ball catch! Just an all around tremendous day of focus and consistency. We’ve set next week up for some of our toughest competition as we progress towards Districts. We look forward to hosting Leslie next Tuesday. Until then, we focus on well wishes for our five seniors and their baccalaureate mass and graduation tomorrow. We are endlessly proud of you!

St. Patrick Varsity Softball hosted Leslie on Tuesday for this season’s last home doubleheader. This was also senior night for our five senior leaders. The Shamrocks split tonight’s doubleheader. Game 1: 0-2 Rylee Scheurer pitched a 7 inning game and had 8 strikeouts. Addie Scheurer and Carly Scheurer each went 1/3 and were our only base runners this game. Game 2: 18-2 Carly Scheurer pitched a 4 inning mercy win and added 4 strikeouts. Carly Scheurer then went 2/2 with a Grand Slam and 4 RBIs, Addie Scheurer went 2/3 with 2 RBIs, Jamelyn Forest went 2/2 with 2 RBIs, Lydia Meredith went 2/4 with a double and 2 RBIs, Mara Schruaben added 3 RBIs, Emma Honsowitz went 2/3 with 2 DBls and 2 RBIs, Bella Meyers went 2/3 with 2 RBIS and Rylee Scheurer went 1/2. Coach Comments: What a night to celebrate and honor our five seniors. Game 1 and Game 2 were vastly different in our offensive presence. Game 1 we faced Leslie’s- Bradford and she was who we thought she was. She had quick velocity, excellent movement and made each at bad a great battle. Game 2 we faced their second pitcher, Jones, and resumed our more aggressive approach with 15 hits, 4 doubles and a grand slam. Our defense was outstanding- gaps were closed, great routes on fly balls, and great infield work as well. We slipped to an early lead and kept staying aggressive at the plate.

In between games we honored our seniors and their parents. We are beyond proud of these girls, thankful for their families, and have endless memories from the last four years. In our speech we talked about the “rebuild” and constant improvement we worked through during those years. We wouldn’t be where we are without them.

Tonight during the last inning, all five seniors had at bats that led to hits or RBIs, and topped off with a Grand Slam by Carly with Bella, Jamelyn, and Rylee on base. From there Carly went on to end the game with a strikeout as Addie caught for her (that sister combo is pretty special), with Lydia and Mara in the SS and 3B position and Bella and Jamelyn in the outfield. It couldn’t have been a more perfect ending to their home career. We kept saying… if you have to go… this is the way to leave. Perhaps it was Father Mike in the dugout, Dick Lawless in heaven, or maybe it was just Bella’s 18th birthday blessing… either way, that last inning will forever stay in our heart and memory.

As we move forward we are looking forward to entering the Greater Lansing Softball Classic at Ranney Park on Thursday, followed by a local tournament at Portland on Saturday.
