Shamrocks handle Morrice
The Morrice Orioles visited Portland on Saturday, September 21st for a highly anticipated matchup of the highly ranked Orioles, against the top ranked Shamrocks. Portland St. Patrick solidly won the game, pounding the Orioles 29-12.
In the first quarter, the Shamrocks saw some adversity when a tipped pass led to an interception on the first series. The Shamrocks had a nice goal line stand, and went to work after. Holding Morrice scoreless in the quarter. The Shamrocks also struggled a bit to find their way offensively. This left the game 0-0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Morrice struck first on the next series, before St. Patrick scored on a pair of touchdown catches by Charlie Thelen, one for 5 yards and one for 44 yard. Brody Beckhold hit both extra points, to leave the Shamrocks winning 14-6 after one half of football.
In the third quarter, scored first, but the Shamrock defense held on the two point conversion. Brady Leonard then broke free and rumbled for a 44 yard touchdown. Brody put the ball between the uprights to leave the Shamrocks on top 21-12 at the end of three.
The fourth quarter saw more tough defense from the Shamrocks, as they held the Orioles scoreless and had another score on a Brady Leonard 2 yard touchdown. The Shamrocks opted for a two point conversion, and it was good when Brady Leonard hooked up with Charlie Thelen.
Offensive leaders for the Shamrocks were Brady Leonard who went 6 for 11 on passing for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brayden Simon punished the Morrice defense, pounding them for 84 yards on 16 carries. Charlie Thelen had 4 catches for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Defensively, the Shamrocks were swarming all night, led by Aiden Mosser with 14 tackles and 1 tackle for loss (TFL), Charlie Thelen had 7 tackles 1 sack and 1 TFL, Ben White had 10 tackles, and Augustus Teachworth had 7 tackles.
The Shamrocks travel to Breckenridge on Friday, September 27 to take on the Huskies.
