Shamrocks knock off Vestaburg

On Saturday, October 2nd the Shamrocks of Portland St. Patrick visited Vestaburg for a football game against the Wolverines. The game was a matchup of two unbeatens, but the Shamrocks were just a bit better this time, winning the game 21-20.

In the first quarter, the Shamrocks struggled a bit finding their game, with the much larger Wolverines controlling the line of scrimmage. Derec Fedewa capped of a drive, catching a 25 yard pass from Lucas Simon, making the score 6-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Shane Cook added a 5 yard reception, to make the score 13-0 at halftime. The Shamrock defense were not challenged the entire first half.

In the third quarter, Vestaburg broke free scoring on a 66 yard run. The Shamrock offense lost star running back and linebacker Derec Fedewa on an injury during the extra point, and he would not return. Backup quarterback Shane Cook led the next drive, before putting it in the endzone on a qb keeper. He also threw the extra point to Lucas Simon. Vestaburg came back and marched down the field, making the core 21-12 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, the Shamrocks made a few good drives, but could not put the ball in the endzone. The Shamrock defense played well, despite being a little banged up, and with the use of some blitzes, they caused some fumbles and were able to hold on for the win.

Offensive leaders were Shane Cook who went 7 for 14 for 142 yards and rushed 8 times for 70 yards and a touchdown. Lucas Simon went 2 for 2 with 39 yards and a touchdown, and rushed 4 times for 18 yards. Defensive leaders were Braxton Teachworth who had 8 tackles 8 assists 1 sak and 2 tackles for loss (TFL), Shane Cook who had 8 tackles 5 assists and 1 TFL, and Devin Cook who had 6 tackles 3 assists 1 sack and 3 TFL.

The Shamrocks host Webberville on Saturday, October 9th at 7 pm for homecoming.
