Sparrow Medical Group Portland: Quality Health Care for the Entire Family

The Sparrow medical system was begun 125 years ago by 100 women in Lansing who saw a need for health care in that vicinity. It has grown to over 100 locations in Michigan including Portland. The Portland clinic employs three doctors and two other providers, including a physician assistant and a nurse practitioner. The Portland location also features a walk-in laboratory with an x-ray machine. Danielle Kensington serves the facility as the practice manager.

“Sparrow’s goal is to improve the health of our community with quality and compassionate care,” said Kensington. “Our office is very close-knit and we have an incredible care team that goes above and beyond to meet the needs of the patient.”

The Sparrow lab in Portland is open five days a week and it is available to all Sparrow patients. By having this facility in Portland, patients need not travel an unwanted distance in order to receive the services of a lab.

“We also employ a behavioral health specialist,” said Kensington. “She is a licensed medical social worker who provides counseling and she helps patients find other services that are related to mental health.”

Sparrow Portland has an orthopedic provider on site on Wednesdays. The presence of this provider allows patients to make use of her services, again, without the need to travel. This aspect of Sparrow Portland is of benefit to patients who do not have the means to travel and to those who find travel to be inconvenient or uncomfortable, such as the elderly. Kensington stated that Sparrow Portland is able to meet the needs of all patient age groups including the elderly and their age-specific medical issues.

“We employ a geriatrician, a pediatrician, an adult family doctor, and two other providers,” she said. “These five providers cover patients of all ages. In this way, one’s entire family may make use of our services and they may see a provider that meets their age-related needs.”
